Recent Brisbane City Council RiskSMART Changes & What They Mean For You

Place Design Group are RiskSMART Accredited Consultants with both Brisbane City Council and Logan City Council.

Our team recently attended a forum at Brisbane City Council to review the RiskSMART assessment process and to provide feedback on the newly adopted changes made by Council.

Earlier this year Council made several changes to the RiskSMART process, the most notable being:

  • The trial of additional categories, including;
    • An increase in the allowable extension to centre activities
    • Commercial character building uses where no major demolition is proposed
    • Any development where assessment is triggered only by an overlay.
  • The introduction of a formalised RiskSMART Enquiry service requiring a fee ($345.00)
  • The option of having technical reports (i.e. hydraulic, acoustic, traffic, etc.) assessed prior to lodging an application.

These changes, combined with the recently introduced Brisbane’s Future Blueprint document have allowed for a range of benefits and constraints when considering whether an application is suitable for RiskSMART.
