At Place Design Group, our hotel and resort work is driven by a deep respect for people and place. With every project, we strive to capture the essence of a destination, blending culture, community, and nature to create immersive experiences that feel both luxurious and personal.
As Lee Lian Lim, our International Design Principal, shares:
“With a commitment to sustainability, thoughtful storytelling, and dedication to excellence, our considered designs combine luxury with a personal touch. In this, there exists a relentless desire to unearth the unexpected and inspire those around us.”
Here are five of our standout projects that embody this philosophy.
A rare sanctuary off the coast of the UAE, Sir Bani Yas Island is home to over one million trees, diverse wildlife, and two royal palaces. Our design challenge was to enhance the island’s luxury hospitality offering while protecting its fragile ecosystems.
We delivered two boutique resorts, a conference centre, and a water sports facility, each carefully integrated into the natural landscape. Elevated timber boardwalks, coastal planting palettes, and native vegetation create a seamless connection between guests and nature, ensuring the island’s ecological integrity remains at the forefront. Privacy, seclusion, and sustainability lie at the heart of this unique desert-meets-ocean experience.
On Hainan Island, the Atlantis Sanya Resort brings the mythical Lost City to life. Commissioned by Fosun Group, our team led the landscape design for the landmark resort’s first stage, from concept to construction.
Signature design elements, from Pegasus sculptures to stylised relics, blend fantasy with luxury, immersing guests in the wonder of the Atlantis brand. Key areas, such as the rooftop and Dolphin Cay entry plaza, were designed to create defining arrival experiences, striking a balance between bold storytelling, durability, climate responsiveness, and guest comfort. Today, Atlantis Sanya stands as one of China’s most celebrated resort destinations.
(Formerly Sheraton Dameisha Resort)
Originally designed by Place Design Group in 2004, this resort was devastated by Super Typhoon Mangkhut. Re-engaged by the client, we saw the rebuild as an opportunity to deliver not just resilience, but a refreshed vision for the resort.
The result is a contemporary pool and garden precinct designed around how guests actually use and enjoy the space. Recreational beachfront pavilions, an expansive children’s pool, lounge zones, and improved connectivity now form a landscape that balances leisure, functionality, and durability. It’s a testament to our long-standing client partnerships and to designing for both beauty and resilience in a changing climate.
Domic Noosa is more than a luxury boutique accommodation; it’s a self-reliant eco lair that redefines high-end residential design. Our approach placed landscape at the centre of the experience, integrating green roof and green wall systems seamlessly into a four-storey architectural form.
Here, landscape and architecture blur into one, provoking a sense of belonging, wonder, and discovery. Domic demonstrates how design innovation can create not just accommodation, but an immersive and sustainable retreat that feels part of its environment.
Set along one of the South Pacific’s most pristine beaches, the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa combines local tradition with contemporary design.
Originally commissioned to design the golf course and clubhouse landscapes, our role grew to include the full resort. The design integrates 271 rooms, 91 suites, and an 18-hole championship golf course into a masterplanned setting alive with colour, texture, and cultural resonance. The outcome exceeded expectations, delivering drama and variety while honouring the character of Fiji.
Designing Experiences That Last
From desert islands to tropical coastlines, our hotel and resort projects demonstrate our passion for crafting landscapes that connect people to place. They are stories of resilience, luxury, and sustainability, designed not just for today, but for generations to come.
