Lord Mayor Pays Tribute To Shanghai Design

Shanghai’s Lotus Mansion has showcased its design triumph to Australian delegates and the Brisbane Lord Mayor at a business event yesterday.  Part of the 2014 Lord Mayor’s Business Mission, which aims to promote investment opportunities in Brisbane and generate business growth with Australia’s export partner regions in Asia, the event was the highlight to the Shanghai leg of the mission hosted by PLACE Design Group and Capitaland.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said it was an honour to view the prestigious development. “This project brings together two great companies, Capitaland and Place Design Group.  Both originating outside of China in Singapore and Australia respectively, they have successfully built their reach into Shanghai and greater China. Their individual successes and partnership here today really shows the whole internationalisation of our global market.”

Founded in Brisbane in 2001, PLACE Design Group quickly established a presence in China in the same year and has never looked back.  Its four offices across China today boast a breadth of work across residential mixed use, and hotels and resorts. Now with over 100 staff in China alone, PLACE Design Group has built a strong reputation as one of Australia’s boutique business export successes.  Earlier this year the group took out the Australia China Business Excellence Awards for Construction and Design and only last week was listed as finalist for Business in Asia in the Lord Mayor Business Awards.

Shaun Munday, Managing Director for PLACE Design Group said, “We are extremely proud of our China business and have worked incredibly hard on its development.  Our focus has always been to mix the best of both business cultures from Australia and China and this has definitely paid off”.

“Hosting the Lord Mayor at one of our own projects in Shanghai has not only provided a great opportunity to showcase what we do but has enabled us to introduce Capitaland, a partner we are very proud to work with.”

Capitaland is one of Asia’s largest developers and this year celebrates 20 years in business. Headquartered in Singapore Capitaland’s portfolio extends throughout Asia from private homes through to large scale shopping malls and residential communities.

Having worked with Capitaland in Shenzhen, the Lotus Mansion is the first Capitaland project for PLACE Design Group’s Shanghai team.  A ‘boutique’ residential and commercial development by China standards the project spans 3 hectares with 398 residential apartments.  Whilst the construction of the sales display area has only been completed the project is already unfolding to be one of Shanghai’s best.  Lead landscape architect on the project PLACE Design Group have created a unique design incorporating themes of modernity, usability and elegance.  The project will feature a central lotus lake, grand lawn, lotus sculptures and feature waterfall. The development is expected to be completed by 2015.

The Business Mission departs Shanghai today to complete the second half of the tour travelling to Hyderabad (India) and Singapore.
