Mari-Mari-Ba Wins Queensland’s 2024 Malcolm Middleton Award for Outstanding Liveable Design
We’re thrilled to announce that Mari-Mari-Ba – Affordable Housing has been honoured with the prestigious Malcolm Middleton Award for Outstanding Liveable Design at Queensland’s 2024 Minister’s Award for Urban Design.
This award recognises the collaborative efforts behind a project that tackles a challenging brief on a sensitive site with deep cultural significance—all while working within the constraints of a tight public housing budget. Place Design Group had the privilege of working alongside an esteemed project team, including Deicke Richards, EDGE Consulting Engineers, JHA, ACOR, Stantec, Coastline Certification, and Litoria Environmental, in partnership with the Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works.
The success of Mari-Mari-Ba reflects our commitment to creating liveable, sustainable, and culturally responsive spaces. It exemplifies how thoughtful urban design can enhance community connection and accessibility, particularly in projects where sensitive considerations and budgetary constraints present unique challenges.
We’re proud to have played a key role in shaping this significant project and look forward to continuing our work in delivering design solutions that foster vibrant and inclusive communities.
