Fangyuan Villa

The design at its core, is based on traditional Chinese ideas of approach and movement that frame views and provide interest points along a journey from exterior to interior within a walled courtyard space. Carefully combined materials use texture, colour and mass to create subtle differences and interest along a finely detailed pathway between elevated water bodies. A large sculptural piece that blends solid and transparent elements sits confidently within the water features, combining the light and materials to illuminate in both day and night viewings. Opportunities to rest outside within the landscape are provided with elevated seating tables connecting people directly to the surrounding water.
