Groves Christian College Campus Revitalisation

Place Design Group was engaged by Groves Christian College to revitalise their main campus, specifically focusing on outdoor learning environments for the Senior Learning Centre Courtyard and Green Amphitheatre. The Senior Outdoor Learning Area and Green Amphitheatre have been developed as the first two stages of the project. Recognising the proven benefits of outdoor learning, the spaces have been designed to offer flexible, dynamic environments that accommodate a variety of learning and social activities, responding to changes in the school’s educational program.

In collaboration with Groves Christian College, we developed a detailed project brief, outlining the educational objectives and space requirements. The brief highlighted the necessity of creating outdoor spaces that:

• Facilitate both individual and group learning.
• Enhance student well-being by integrating natural elements that reduce stress and improve focus.
• Provide comfortable social spaces with shaded areas for gatherings and relaxation.
• Promote accessibility and smooth movement between key campus facilities.

This framework was critical in shaping the final design, ensuring the outdoor learning areas were not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and aligned with the school’s educational values. The flexible spaces, shaded zones, and enhanced landscape amenity serve as an extension of the classroom, supporting the school’s commitment to fostering a holistic, healthy learning environment.
