Rockhampton Railyards Master Plan

This project represents an opportunity to deliver jobs and employment to bolster the local economy while securing the long-term future of important heritage buildings.

  • Location
  • North Queensland, QLD, Australia

Driving down Bolsover Street the site is immediately recognisable by the heritage listed Roundhouse building. It’s a truly unique structure that is left unused on the site. Time, technology and events have caught up with the site, its uses and its buildings.

With changes to operational requirements our client has made the decision to close the Rockhampton facility. The decision to close the workshop site was not taken lightly, and our client is conscious of the impact on the city and on the community.  Place Design Group have been appointed to revitalise the site and explore a new future for the site.

In response to the closure of the workshop, this master plan will help to reshape the future of the site and provide a positive legacy in terms of city and community outcomes. The scale, location and potential of the Rockhampton Railyards site provides a generationally unique opportunity to create a distinct employment precinct that can regenerate this part of the Rockhampton City Centre and provide a significant stimulus for the wider Rockhampton region.
