Launched today at the Canterbury-Bankstown Future Street Activation, Place Design Group’s second edition ‘Future of Streets’ provocation book has upped the ante on thought-provoking ideas, future-focused concepts and key design principles focused on the future of our streets.
Usually an overlooked city asset, the humble ‘street’ has much potential and is the hot topic of the moment as councils and government start to seriously discuss the Smart Cities agenda and look to implement Smart Cities strategies.
Place Design Group, Director of Planning, Chris Isles, is a self-confessed “streets geek”, spruiking the importance of focussing on ‘the street’ at both national and international events and has been the driver of the ‘Future of Streets’ provocation.
Mr Isles said, “The Future of Streets June 2019 Edition is a further exploration about the Future of Streets, documenting emerging issues and the current influences, change and disruption occurring in, on, under and about our streets.”
“The content within, really focuses on the topical issues our streets are facing including micro-mobility (e-scooters and dockless bikes), freight and logistics (urban freight and food delivery), autonomous vehicles and 5G in our cities,” Mr Isles said.
“The Design Principles within are a clear, concise, actionable list of considerations for councils and government bodies, when planning their smart city, future-focused strategies,” Mr Isles said.
Collaborating with the City of Canterbury-Bankstown Council on the Canterbury-Bankstown Future Street activation, Place Design Group delivered this pop-up project which demonstrates how councils can really take these principles and ideas, bring them to life and engage their communities to interact with their smart city strategies in and fun and effective way.
Canterbury-Bankstown Future Street runs from June 18 – 24.
