Sovereign Hills Book Place
Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia
321 Kent Street Plaza provides the perfect place of refuge from the office and the busy hustle and bustle of Kent Street in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.
With the plaza being a heavily utilised area, the recreation of the existing forecourt into a functional, accessible, multi-use seating area was key to providing an opportunity for workers to relax during lunch, hold outdoor meetings or small informal gatherings in an inviting space. Working closely with Mos Urban we developed a series of custom designed circular seating pods, incorporating lighting, planting and natural timber, creating warmth and vibrancy for this originally hard, city space. The circular paving pattern compliments the circular pods and provides a visual separation between areas of movement and dedicated areas for respite. The planting palette is hardy and well suited to the inner-city conditions.
Material palettes were reviewed in conjunction with existing materials on site, with the intent of complementing and enhancing the space. Providing a ‘warm and inviting’ plaza can be challenging in existing inner-city commercial developments. We were able to combated this by integrating the perfect mix of soft landscape, natural timber elements and high quality stone to provide a vibrant, well used inner-city space which has proven to be highly successful.
