The Australian Silo Art Trail – Forest Hill Silos Queensland
Toowoomba, QLD, Australia
A haven for sports lovers! A one-of-a-kind skate park with a combination of park and street style skate elements to suit all ages and skill levels.
The Gold Coast is well known for its healthy active lifestyle, with Pizzey Park playing an important role at local, district and regional levels. Located in a well established residential precinct, Pizzey Park was originally a rubbish tip, historically developed as an open space park and since then, over a period of years, numerous sporting codes have made it their home.
In 2002, Place Design Group partnered with California Skate to conceptualise and develop the schematic design for Pizzey Park Skate Street to meet as an Olympic standard training facility. Working with the City of Gold Coast (CoGC) the team developed a scheme to provide not only a world class skate street, but places for casual spectators, families and friends to socialise.
In 2018, Place Design Group was engaged to update the Pizzey Park Master Plan, through a comprehensive consultation process engaging with council, user group stakeholders and the community to help steer the design process. The conceptualised and constructed ‘Pizzey’ sign will become an emblem for the precinct. The detailed schematic design package was delivered to a level that allowed CoGC to take the project to a design and construct contractor to see the vision delivered.
The park supports rugby league, soccer, tennis, athletics, softball, the Miami Aquatic Centre and has one of the better known skate park complexes on the Gold Coast. It also includes an extensive network of walking and cycling pathways that provide access to the large variety of landscapes including lakes and a pine forest. The Master Plan was created to assist in long term planning and management, structure for future development and surety for the diverse range and number of users.
