Place Design Group was commissioned to undertake concept design, consultation, design development, construction documentation and construction phase site reviews for Smithfield Street Revitalisation.
Part of the commission included the preparation of a unifying streetscape materials palette to be consistently applied across the town centre.
Smithfield Street involved the briefing and commissioning of public artists to deliver bespoke artwork outcomes in the street, including two themed sculptural pieces (pictured), collectively titled ‘Alchemy’.
The project delivered demonstrated community aspirations for cost-effective streetscape improvements by introduction of new street furniture, pedestrian crossing points, significant street tree planting and landscaping, streetscape lighting, public art, and widened pedestrian pavement areas to encourage alfresco dining and encourage an ‘eat street’ atmosphere.
