The bespoke three key circular basketball court located on Blair Drive at The University of Queensland’s (UQ) St Lucia campus supports inclusive fitness and responds to the increasing popularity of social basketball.

A circular design envisaged as a sociopetal space, the court brings people together in an informal, comfortable way. Place Design Group took on the role of siting the court in the best location to maximise visibility to help activate the precinct for longer periods beyond organised competition times, and to work in and around existing site constraints including trees and services.

Features of the court include sports court lighting for both day and night use, a low concrete retaining wall that is rubber surfaced that serves as a low seating wall for resting and watching, waterproof GPO’s integrated into the wall for recharging devices and court colours specified to match the UQ Sport brand.

The three key circular basketball court was designed and delivered in conjunction with an expanded and renovated beach volleyball court (three courts) and four new full-sized multi-use courts that cater for netball, basketball and tennis, that all sit within the Blair Drive sporting precinct at the St Lucia Campus.
