Commissioned to deliver a temporary activation space on the iconic Sydney Harbour foreshore of Barrangaroo, adding to the city’s public waterfront leisure space amenity.

Barangaroo showcases Place Design Group’s commitment to creating vibrant and functional public realm. Collaborating closely with Infrastructure NSW, the brief for Barrangaroo was to transform a former shipping container terminal now vacant site into a temporary activation which promotes both passive and active recreation, showcasing a hint of what the future parklands may include.

The 1.85-hectare Harbour Park serves as a community hub along Sydney’s foreshore, incorporating temporary inclusions such as shelters, fitness equipment, custom daybed and an array of planting designed in above ground sandstone planters. Ground surface painting was designed to add to the temporary activation and completement the artwork applied to the hoardings, solar lighting was also included to ensure the park remains inviting and accessible throughout the day and into the evening.

This project showcases our expertise in designing temporary public open spaces which can test activation strategies, promote active and passive recreation with the ability to adjust as needed for events and easily remove to make way for the future parklands.
