Delivered in accordance with the Edmondson Park ISDP and Campbelltown Council requirements, the Maxwell Creek Oval sports precinct is integral to the $1B Edmondson Park development. The pitch accommodates a wide variety of sports including two rugby league pitches, synthetic cricket pitch and football pitches. A $1M architect designed amenities building spans 205sqm and includes high end change facilities, canteen and equipment storage.

Place Design Group were engaged by Dahua Group to interconnect the facilities with the natural landscape and surrounding residences. Nestled within undulating topography, combined with the protected riparian vegetation along the creek line surrounding the facility provided a set of challenges for the design team. The 4m change of level between the perimeter road and the pitch level was utilised as terraced seating, while walling and fencing retained the sports field to the north and protected the delicate ecological community.

The resulting design combines the latest in designated formal sports facilities with current trends in nature play, embracing the site’s topography changes to create an immersive experience for users by offering spaces for informal recreation, picnics, barbecue facilities and market stalls.
