A decade ago, Edmondson Park was situated on the outer edge of Sydney, its potential as a thriving, connected community difficult to envision. Today, with Landcom’s foresight and planning, Edmondson Park has transformed into a vibrant and desirable suburb, easily accessible by train.

After Landcom’s 2011 masterplan of the 425ha former defence site, Edmondson Park, has evolved into a thriving community with a combination of residential, commercial and community amenities, sporting and green spaces. What was once a largely undeveloped area is now home to a diverse range of residences, retail spaces, community amenities, and expansive green areas, all seamlessly connected through public transport.

The oval’s new facilities, include an AFL field, BBQ areas, an all-abilities playground, and a new amenity building. The design features screening that symbolises the service medal ribbons awarded to soldiers, further honouring the site’s historical significance.

Transforming the traditional oval and its edge of mature trees, Mont Saint Quentin is designed to be a centre for local sporting activities and gatherings, weaving in a strong connection to the past.

Working closely with Landcom and the engineering team, Place Design Group advanced the existing concept design, delivering a number of cost saving design ideas all while ensuring the vision and the history of the site shone through.

Originally a military parade ground, the site has a rich history that was key to the development of the landscape design. This included retaining the heritage gates and avenue, specially selected plant species and interpreting the existing site barracks within the new playground.

The site’s AFL field is designed for local competition and includes a new amenities building, playing surface and perimeter fence.

The new playground is accessible and caters for a wide rage of users and ages.
