In early June 2019, Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner announced a new plan to transform Victoria Park Golf Course into the city’s biggest public parkland in 50 years.

Place Design Group were one of five local design firms invited by Brisbane City Council to contribute a visionary idea for the future parkland as part of their broader visioning and community engagement process.

Drawing inspiration from Brisbane’s regional landscape character and taking advantage of the undulating landform of Victoria Park, The Brisbane Rock Pools was conceived as an exciting parkland idea. Located in a major gully at the heart of the park, the Brisbane Rock Pools re-introduces a chain-of-ponds that was once present where the Inner City Bypass is today and re-imagines a sub-tropical rock pool setting as a dynamic playscape for families and people of all ages to enjoy.
